Lets get a discussion goin...
How do you feel about scheduled c-sections for no medical reason?

I'm of two minds. First, I think a woman should be allowed to make choices about what happens to her body at all points in her reproductive life. So, if a woman has genuinely educated herself (not just been given her doctor's version of risks and benefits) about all of her options, and she still willingly chooses a scheduled c/s for no medical reason, I believe the choice is hers. I have to admit, though, that saying that I am feeling like anyone who truly knew the facts would choose a non-surgical birth, but in reality there might still be some women who would still choose elective c/s.

On the other hand, I think it is unethical for any major surgery to be performed on anyone without medical cause. I think women in the U.S. are disproportionately coerced into unnecessary procedures and surgeries, like c-sections and hysterectomies, in ways that men never are. And as I look at my own VBAC options I am horrified to see how few hospitals and even midwifes are willing to attend VBACS--many of the hospitals in my areas have banned them altogether, essentially forcing women who work with OBs connected to those hospitals to have a scheduled c-section for no medical reason.
